FAQs

What is the difference between a Job Coach and an Employment Support Professional?

These terms are often used to mean the same person doing the same work. At Windrose, we prefer to highlight the professional nature of our work as recruitment and retention experts.

Will I always work with the same ESP?

Unless there is a need for a change, we like to keep the client/ESP relationship as consistent as possible, which means that you will likely be paired with a single ESP who will work with you for the duration of your case.

Sometimes, though, ESP’s work together to cover important events for each other’s clients. For example, if you have an interview on a day when your ESP can’t make it, another ESP might come with you instead.

Can I request a different ESP?

“Appropriate fit” is important in everything we do, and we want to make sure you are comfortable with the Employment Support Professional who is assisting you with your case. If you prefer to work with a different ESP for any reason, please reach out to our Executive Director to discuss a change.

How quickly will I get a job?

That really depends on a lot of factors. Your area of work interest, whether you are an SE or E&R job seeker, the local job market, your availability, your travel distance. The more flexible you are able to be regarding these factors, the quicker we will be able to find sustainable, appropriate work for you.

What is the difference between the Supported Employment program and the Employment & Retention program?

Both of these programs are designed to help Kentucky job seekers with disabilities find and keep competitive, integrated employment. The E&R program is a shorter-term program than the SE program, and it doesn’t require a lengthy “discovery” period or extensive “long term supports.” In the SE program, we are required to spend 10-20 hours discovering the job seekers skills, interests, current supports, and needed supports before we begin a job search. After a SE worker is hired, supports will continue for anywhere from 3 months to up to 2 years. ER workers typically only need supports for the first three months of a new job.

What is competitive, integrated employment?

Competitive, integrated employment (CIE) is a type of employment that ensures people with disabilities are paid fairly and work in environments with people who don't have disabilities. In CIE, the worker is paid at or above minimum wage. The employer pays comparable wages to employees with and without disabilities, when they are doing similar work. And the employer offers the same level of benefits to employees with and without disabilities.

CIE is the goal of both the Supported Employment and E&R programs. We are unable to help job seekers obtain employment in “sheltered” work settings (such as those who pay sub-minimum wage to disabled workers, only allow people with disabilities to work in specified roles, etc.)

What jobs does Windrose currently have available?

Windrose is not an employment agency in the traditional sense. We develop working relationships with employers so that we understand their hiring needs, but we are not a staffing agency that plugs workers into a database of available jobs. Your ESP will work with you to identify appropriate job roles, and together you will research potential employers and job openings that meet your needs.

What types of jobs are possible for me?

That depends on your skills, interests, training, work experience, and other factors like availability, transportation, travel radius and more. As you can see from the list above, we have helped our job seekers find a wide variety of jobs, and we’ll do the same for you.

I’d like to ask a question I don’t see posted.

Fantastic! Just email us your question, and we’ll get back to you right away.
